This was our third year attending Fiesta Week, in Oshawa, Ontario: a week-long annual celebration of community cultures from around the world through the fusion of many cultural traditions, music, food, and entertainment. All round fun, fun, fun!

With the help of many volunteers, we were able to set up tables at Lviv Pavilion and Odesa Pavilion where visitors wrote postcards to Defenders while feasting on Ukrainian dishes that included buttery varenyky (pierogi), patychky (meat shishkabobs), borscht (beet soup), and sweet desserts, while also watching the Ukrainian dance troupes perform. A week of music, dance, food, and postcards. And, Yes! We ate too much this week!

Altogether, 733 postcards were written by the citizens of Oshawa, local politicians, and visitors to the city who came to join in the celebrations. A staggering signal of sustained support and care for Ukraine’s Defenders, their homeland and their families.

Every person that we met, and each postcard written to a Defender, reminded us that awareness and concern for Ukraine have not waned. After more than four years since the full-scale invasion, Canada Stands with Ukraine. Канада ЗА вас.

Please continue to tell others about this project.

Ask family and friends to write cards. Involve your children and grandchildren. Defenders especially appreciate postcards with drawings from children.

A postcard message of support to a Defender of Ukraine is “a little more happiness” on a hard day.
