Ukraine has resisted terror from the Russian aggressor for more than three years, demonstrating inspirational courage and resilience amongst Ukrainians who have stood steadfast for freedom and democracy. This map represents one way to consider how to ‘name’ courage.
We don’t get a lot of feedback about the postcards that travel to the front lines from all over the world through this project. Because … well, … they’re kinda busy saving themselves and their country from destruction. But … when we do, we like to share it because it is for you, dear postcard warriors.
Earlier this year, we received a video note of thanks from a Defender, which you can view here. The first few seconds are in Ukrainian, then he speaks directly to our English speaking postcard warriors.
And now, we’re happy to share with you a message of awe and thanks from a volunteer in Nikopol region who distributes the cards to the front lines.
The volunteer in this 2-minute YouTube video speaks in Ukrainian. But … you can read what she says by clicking on the CC [closed caption] setting at the bottom of the video frame to generate English subtitles. You can hear her emotion, in her voice, and through her words, as she describes how she feels as she reads each postcard, and admits, “… I could not hold back my tears … and I think that they [Defenders] will be a thousand times more pleased to read your wishes …”. We can see a lot of cards sent from Canada branch supporters. Thank you all!
Your cards matter. They make a difference in the lives of Ukrainians, at the front lines and across the country. Thank you!

Maybe you want to organize a group of family, friends or others to write postcards? Check our website for tips on How to Run a Postcard-Writing Workshop. Consider a group effort this summer to help us with our Christmas in Summer campaign, so we can send a lot of messages of love and support in time for Christmas. By then, it will be nearly four years that Ukrainians have been defending and protecting their families, their homes, their land, their freedom.
Try one of these holiday greetings, keeping in mind that not all Defenders practice one particular faith:
Нехай світло Різдва осяє вас духовно. – Let Christmas light to shine mentally. (a bit of wordplay as they often don’t have electricity)
Зі святами! Ми молимось за вас! – Happy holidays! We pray for you!
З Різдвом! Бажаю вам добра і звитяги! – Merry Christmas! I wish you a kindness and bravery!
