We used to send stamps to Irena, in Ukraine, who collected them for the Bone Cancer Research Trust (BCRT). She wrote about her stamp project for our January 2025 newsletter.
Quite sadly, she did not survive her cancer and passed away this summer.
We continue to send used stamps from this project, in Irena’s name, to BCRT. After receiving the first batch of stamps that we sent to them, we received this thank you note from Abby:
“I just wanted to say a massive thank you for the stamps you posted over to our office. There was such a beautiful selection in there …”
Marcus, our American veteran supporter, recommended another project for us to send used stamps: Stamps for the Wounded. We recently received a lovely thank you note, in part:
“Thank you for sharing the stamps that were going to go to Irena with our veterans. I read the article that she wrote, and your memorial article in July. … Marcus contacted me a few months ago about Postcards to the Front. He asked me to consider telling the veterans in our program about it, in case some of them are interested in sending postcards to Ukrainian defenders. I plan to do so … “
Thank you, to our dear friend Marcus for his continued support of Defenders of Ukraine through Postcards to the Front! We wrote about some of his dedication to the project in the article, Always a soldier, “my brothers and sisters in Ukraine get my support”.
We’ve also sent some of your used stamps to Oxfam Canada Stamp Out Poverty program.
In Australia, you can send your used stamps to Mary MacKillop Today where stamp donations support their work with very poor communities in Australia and abroad.
Have a look at all of the stamps that come through your mailbox on letters and cards. Why not recycle the used postage stamps for a good cause? Carefully cut off the postage stamp, along with the cancellation, with a little bit of breathing room away from the stamp(s) so they are protected from bending/wrinkling. Once you have a small batch, send them to a charity that will use them to raise funds for their projects; potentially, within your community.
Don’t forget to add a note explaining why you are donating the stamps. Charity organizations like to know how we learn about their good works.
