Michel & friends in Ottawa had the distinction of sending the 5,000th card to our mailbox. All his group’s own designs! Congratulations! Their prize? Postcards. As most of the group are Ukrainians sheltering in Canada, we sent them some postcards and stamps to write messages home.
Wonder how we’ll celebrate when we hit the 10,000th card? Thinking cap on …

Many thanks to Saskatchewan friend, Connie at Prairie Reflections Cards for another batch of her beautiful dove and anemone postcards for people to write. Connie wrote about her design process for creating these cards in “Saskatchewan artist reflects on Ukraine in postcard design“, published in our February 2024 newsletter.
Need cards? We’re happy to send you some of Connie’s cards! FREE!

From the Russia Embassy Protesters in Ottawa, we received what has become a monthly supply of about 50-60 beautifully designed cards. Every weekday since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, no matter the weather or the pushback from embassy staff, they stand outside, with signs, flags and a variety of creative props as soldiers of support for Ukraine, and as critics of the invaders. If you’re in Ottawa this spring or summer, stop by at the embassy and join them. You can learn more here.

This month we welcome another new postcard warrior, Jessica in California. She has sent a few dozen beautiful postal art postcards. Thank you, Jessica!
You may recall that our veteran friend Marcus, from Arizona, is celebrating his 1,000th card to Ukraine. We wrote about his goal, and methods, in our February 2025 newsletter, here. To celebrate, he has issued a challenge to you. The first postcard warrior to send 200 postcards by July 4th will win a box of postcards. The kind of beautiful box with a series of cards, like birds, books, comic characters, space themes, etc.
Here is a quote from Dr. Martin Luther King that Marcus has used on some of his postcards to Defenders:
Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness can not drive out darkness, only light can do that.
Please continue to do the good work that your cards do: offer light in the darkness.
