We’ve been watching and reading our regular news feeds and social media, about the February 28 meeting at the White House. Apparently, the shock is widespread.

Conservative American journalist, David Frum, wrote today in The Atlantic — “At least the Oval Office meeting held by President Donald Trump and Vice President J. D. Vance with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was held in front of the cameras. False friendliness in public by Trump and Vance, followed by behind-the-scenes treachery, would have been much more dangerous to the Ukrainian cause.

Instead, Trump and Vance have revealed to Americans and to America’s allies their alignment with Russia, and their animosity toward Ukraine in general and its president in particular. The truth is ugly, but it’s necessary to face it.”

According to the CBC, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier has criticized Trump’s non-diplomatic treatment of President Zelenskyy, stating — “Diplomacy fails when negotiating partners are humiliated in front of the whole world” (Steinmeier told dpa, the German news agency). “The scene in the White House yesterday took my breath away. I would never have believed that we would one day have to protect Ukraine from the U.S.A.”

And Russia had this – and more – to say about yesterday’s meeting at the White House, according to CBC — that is, that “Russia’s war aims remain unchanged, implying Moscow will insist on a demilitarized Ukraine barred from NATO, and on annexing Ukrainian territories it controls,” (Maria Zakharova, CBC news).

Canada and European allies of Ukraine meet Sunday, March 2 in London to discuss increased support for Ukraine.

And, we postcard warriors can also continue to show Ukrainians that they are not alone.

Now, more than ever, Ukraine needs you and, in particular, your words of support, comfort and hope.
