Many thanks to our many dedicated supporters who have sent several packages of written cards for Ukraine’s Defenders!

This month, we send a special thank you to our Singapore supporter, Clarisse, who impresses with her Ukrainian writing!

Renee, a Postcrossing friend in Chicago, has written a number of her own cards – love the cat and dog cards! – as well as some of the cards sent to us via Australia branch that was recently bequeathed hundreds of blank postcards (we wrote about this in our November 2024 issue). We were happy to distribute Canada and United States cards to various supporters and are very grateful for every writing effort! Including Renee who took up the pen to write those cards gifted via Australia.

And WOW! Another huge batch of postcards from Sarah, in Culpeper, Virginia, whose cards feature her shop or “Welcome to Culpeper”! You may recall reading about Sarah in our October 2024 issue. Sarah enlists friends as well as shop visitors to write postcards messages of support to Ukraine’s Defenders. Recently, a woman saw the Ukrainian flag that Sarah flies outside her shop and went in.

“She was born in Germany but both her parents were Ukrainian, and they all got to the US and became citizens. Her parents sent her to a voice coach, so she would have no accent….and she doesn’t!! She was very excited about the postcards project, so I gave her cards and a bilingual sheet, and away she went, very happy!”

And Sarah doesn’t stop there! She reached out to a friend in Ohio who sewed some prayer patches for Defenders. These were a new concept to us, but Sarah explained: “you keep one in a pocket, and when you need a prayer, you reach in and hold the patch for a little while. I think all faiths …. and hopes …. have meditative moments … and [one] can be recalled to a moment of mental rest by a touch of the patch in the pocket.” What a kind and caring thought!

It’s so inspiring for us at Canada Branch to receive a variety of cards from across North America – and even beyond – as well as to read each heartwarming supportive message for Defenders, in both English and Ukrainian (and sometimes, a bit of French).
