Postcards to the Front (Canada / Канада)

Canadians sending postcards with messages of support and encouragement to Ukraine’s frontline Defenders.

Notes from Vietnam & Cambodia

We’ve just returned from an amazing month-long journey through Vietnam and Cambodia. Both countries have suffered invasions, colonization, and oppressions for more than two centuries. Every day, we thought of Ukraine, and wrote at least one card per day during our vacation. Sometimes in a café. Sometimes on the sundeck while cruising the Mekong River.

One visit to a Buddhist monastery, where we met novice monks, ages 7-16, particularly reminded us of the importance of communicating our support to Ukraine’s Defenders. We were encouraged by the novice monks (children, really) to “think only positive thoughts, say only positive words, and do only positive actions.”

I recently started Zentangle classes, so have been trying some of the tangles that I’ve learned on postcards to Defenders. What do you think? Should I continue practicing, or give it up?

Of course, we always take note of any Ukrainian flag we see flying in support of Ukraine. Like the one seen here at the Canadian Embassy in Hanoi, Vietnam. Interesting to see it, as Vietnam is a communist country [in principle] under the Russia/Soviet sphere, as one can often see the hammer & sickle flying next to the Vietnamese flag.

Thank you Canada Embassy staff in Hanoi, Vietnam for showing Canada’s clear support of Ukraine!

Neither Vietnam nor Cambodia presently send mail to Ukraine. Oh well … we’ve got other ways to send our postcard messages of support to our Ukrainian friends.
