Ottawa, Ontario
The Russia Embassy Protesters in Ottawa continue to fill our mailbox with heartwarming supportive messages for Ukraine’s Defenders. Another 92 cards arrived this month and are on their way to the front lines. This batch of cards was written as part of the surprise birthday celebration organized for one of the members of the protest group. Cards feature the iconic freedom bike chained to a pole outside the embassy, images from special days of protest such as the 2nd anniversary since the invasion in 2022, and 1000 days of violence and destruction by Russia.
Angela, one of the organizers, wrote of the occasion: “Matt (our hilarious prop maker), as usual, devised a silly bit. This time, dressing up as if her gift was a mysterious dangerous package. Had us all laughing so hard! In these dark times, this camaraderie is what keeps us going. Gathering around the postcard writing, with good food and drink, is a lovely way to foster that. And in the bitter cold winter, time in the warm indoors is a nice break from being out on the sidewalk in front of the embassy!”
Every day, no matter the weather, since the full-scale invasion, the protesters march in front of the Russia Embassy in Ottawa, reminding embassy staff that Canada disagrees with their invasion of Ukraine.
We are grateful that the protesters also make some time to write caring messages of support to Ukraine’s Defenders.
Thank you all in Ottawa for your outstanding work, on the pavement and with your pens!
