Tetiana Protcheva’s art is impressive in many ways. A Ukrainian digital artist who moved to Toronto in 2023, Tetiana offers a captivating perspective on the fusion of technology and traditional embroidery art. In her work, including her GlowArt Brand, Tetiana uses QR codes to encode her creative messages.

We met Tetiana at the Odum Zustrich Ukrainian Youth events held over Labour Day weekend this year. After learning about her unique application of traditional embroidery techniques to contemporary digital platforms, we asked Tetiana to help us design some new cards for Defenders.

Tetiana designed three fabulous cards with QR codes on the back that take Defenders to happy places, such as the “Ukraine is my home” card with QR to a beautiful video featuring stunning images of Ukrainian landscapes. Or, the sunflower QR that will take a Defender to a message, “flowers for you”, with a video of a colourful flower, slowly unfolding into bloom. And, finally, Tetiana’s own embroidered map of Ukraine with QR that will take a Defender to a rendition of Ukraine’s national anthem.

Tetiana also embroidered a unique Postcards to the Front QR code that you will start to see on our ‘in house’ postcard creations. It’s such a beautiful work of art that we’ve framed the original!
