The Winnipeg Jets national hockey league team in Winnipeg, Manitoba, has scored big with their announcement October 2nd of the Jets first Ukrainian Heritage Night to be held January 02, 2025. For that night’s game, Jets players will wear the logo specially designed by Ukrainian-born Andrii Sobchuk to celebrate Ukrainian heritage.

Of the design, the Jets tell fans that Sobchuk incorporated geometric patterns from Ukrainian embroidery often found on the sleeves of embroidered shirts (vyshyvankas) and the edges of towels (rushnyks). The design includes eight-pointed stars, also known as mallows, which symbolize the joining of masculine and feminine energies and the stable order and harmony that prevail in the universe and in each person’s life.

Further, the Jets share, rather than feature the traditional red, black and white associated with Ukrainian embroidery, blue and yellow are used to reflect the colours of the Ukrainian flag. These colours also represent the sky and wheat fields — elements that hold significant meaning in Manitoba as well as in Ukrainian culture. The Ukrainian Coat of Arms symbolizes Ukrainian national identity and the country’s rich history and cultural heritage. Its integration with the Jets logo highlights the importance of the Ukrainian community in Manitoba.

We already know a bit about the significance of the Ukrainian community in Manitoba, as residents of The Pas have sent many postcard messages of support to Ukraine’s Defenders.

Of his design, Sobchuk said “I’ve realized my passion for designing in the sports industry, particularly for the Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose. I’m excited to be the designer of the logo for Ukrainian Heritage Night and to share the rich culture and spirit of Ukraine with our community.” – Winnipeg Jets unveil Ukrainian Heritage Night logo

GO! JETS! GO!

Hey … maybe the Winnipeg Jets will create some postcards with the Ukrainian Heritage logo for Jets fans to write messages of support to Ukraine’s Defenders??

As a Canadian who personally and through his business supports the efforts in Ukraine, I can’t see how this is a bad idea at all. It helps promote the initiative of sending postcards to those risking their lives daily, with moral support and it promotes the team by showing the thoughtfulness behind their initiative.

It also helps keep the war in the minds of people who are living comfortably in our peaceful, first world country and who have the time and money to be able to sit and watch people play a sport.

    Please make this happen!

Spot on! Such a beautiful design, plus a heartfelt message of support, would most certainly boost morale. Go Jets Go!

The logo is WOW!, the Jets’ event will be WOW!, postcards from the Jets and their fans: triple WOW!

Go Jets go! Get the Ducks, and even get them to write cards, even if only to console themselves for losing the game.

    Hello Jets

What a wonderful logo, we think it will be great to see a postcard about it. Unfortunately in our Country there are no Hockey Teams. We have seen movies about it and its very funny.

You are welcome to spend some days in our Country in the Holidays.

We support Ukraine from Costa Rica.
