South African Solidarity with Ukraine
During travels in Africa, we connected with the Ukrainian Association of South Africa (UAZA), which has now hosted two successful postcard-writing events. UAZA participated in A Taste of Belgium, raising awareness about Ukraine and showcasing Odesa souvenirs. Many South Africans expressed solidarity, writing postcards to Defenders at the front lines, fostering connections between nations.

How Fedia took Postcards to the Front to Chicago
After WWII, ODUM was founded in Canada and the U.S. by Eastern Ukrainians aiming to preserve their heritage. Fedia Kourbatov promotes support for Ukraine’s Defenders by organizing postcard-writing at his mother’s shop, MAK Chicago. He believes these messages boost morale and foster global solidarity, reinforcing cultural pride and community engagement.

It’s so hard to cope with all the sorrows … a postcard makes you feel that you are not alone
It’s easy to make meaningful connections with Ukraine / Ukrainians. Postcard communication during the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, plays a meaningful role in the emotional support provided to Defenders and Ukrainians all round, as well as contributes to the resilience of Ukrainians amid adversity.
