Lately, we’ve been reading a lot about the energy crisis in Ukraine. Nearly every power plant has been targeted by Russian missiles and drones leaving Ukrainians without light, heat, water and everything else that needs electricity to run.

Tamara, at home base, sent us this email on February 8th:

Hello guys! We have 18 hours per day blackouts now. Here are different schedules. Mine is 1.2 so 6 hours of light per day. However, post started to come better. Today I came to the post office and they gave me enormous amount of envelopes. I’m going to sort it today and send you stats, but photos first.

It’s a good thing that Tamara has Mr. Cat to assist, because she has to carefully plan what she will do each day during her allotted hours with power: work, shower, clean, cook, laundry, AND when the mail arrives: unpack and prepare postcards for Defenders. February 8th: her mailbox had 2,594 postcards. Thanks to you, dear postcard warriors!

Many European countries have donated generators to help Ukrainians stay powered up at least a few hours each day. The Vatican sent 80 generators, some food and medicine to help Ukrainians suffering through this harsh winter of terror.

We wanted to know what we could do to help. We found Energize Ukraine established by the Ukrainian World Congress to help get power to Ukrainians, particularly to schools and hospitals.

Energize Ukraine focuses on renewable and hybrid energy solutions that support critical infrastructure; solar panels, battery modules, etc. We like that our donation can result in immediate much-needed help.

What is the Ukrainian World Congress?

“The Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) is an international non-profit organization that represents tens of millions of Ukrainians globally. Established in 1967, the Ukrainian World Congress (UWC) is the global voice for the Ukrainian people worldwide.

Since 2023, Energize Ukraine has mobilized support from governments, energy institutions, and industry partners in Canada and the United States, resulting in the delivery of high-voltage equipment, transformers, breakers, solar panels, and specialized machinery to Ukraine. Donated and procured equipment has been transferred to Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy, Ukrenergo, and Energoatom, supporting grid repair, power generation, and winter preparedness across the country.”

Our Valentine gift of love and care to Ukraine is a donation to Energize Ukraine. And, we’ll also write a few extra postcards to Defenders.

Do you know an organization, or a corporation, that would like to support the Energize Ukraine initiative? They can reach out to —
