This autumn, part of our vacation included time in South Africa, where we attended a monument unveiling at the CP Nel Museum in Oudtshoorn [ostrich capital of the world], organized by the Polish Association of Siberian Deportees in South Africa.
The monument was installed as a remembrance of the 500 Polish orphans, survivors of WWII Soviet labour camps, who were welcomed by the Oudtshoorn community, living at the orphanage camp from 1943-1947. For us, family ties.
There, first-, second-, and third-generation Polish South Africans wrote postcards to Defenders of Ukraine. As well, we we were afforded the opportunity to meet with Dzvinka Kachur, Honorary President of the Ukrainian Association of South Africa (UAZA) [NPO # 189 – 705 representative], and shared with her about Postcards to the Front. Stay tuned … more about postcards for Defenders of Ukraine from South Africa coming in future posts!
