Postcards to the Front (Canada / Канада)

Canadians sending postcards with messages of support and encouragement to Ukraine’s frontline Defenders.

Stamps from Lions

Today’s mail included two surprises. First, postage stamps from the Merrickville Lions Club; you’ll recall that we recently held postcard-writing workshops in Merrickville, Ontario. MANY THANKS! to the Lions Club for their generous support of Postcards to the Front (Canada / Канада), and for their support of Ukraine through other international projects such as the Refugees and Displaced Persons Fund.

From France, we received a card from a first-generation Ukrainian relative, Sylviane, written in both French and Ukrainian, and sent via Gibraltar! Gibraltar has a long military history dating as far back as 711AD. For those interested in symbolism, St. Michael’s Cave, located within the Upper Rock Nature Reserve of Gibraltar, features a stunning stalactite-created St. Michael.

Stalactite formation of St. Michael in St. Michael’s Cave, Gibraltar (Helen; March 2023)

Saint Michael the Archangel stands in the center of Kyiv with a shield and a sword, as protector of the capital of Ukraine, and of the entire country. Given the continuous onslaught of missiles and bombs raining terror on Ukraine, perhaps St. Michael could be equipped with an anti-missile defence system?

Please keep those cards coming! If you have a few extra stamps, we’d be grateful if you added them to your envelope. They will help the packages of happy mail travel to front line Defenders in Ukraine.

And if you haven’t already, please subscribe. We are always excited to share our monthly international newsletter with our subscribers! The next issue is due for release the end of October. Heads Up: there is an article featuring two Defenders and their reactions to receiving messages of support via postcards that serve as “a ray of sunshine in the kingdom of darkness.”
